Leadership skills aren’t always gained naturally, and some people have to take on extra time to learn that skill for themselves. While there’s a lot you can be taught, a lot of it is going to come from learning as you go. When you lead your own team, you need to learn about your team members, and their strengths and weaknesses.
You need to know where your team members struggle and where they excel, that way you can help them to develop and work on their skills. Of course, you can also allow people to play to their strengths at the same time. You have a lot of responsibility when you’re trying to be an effective leader, as it’s on you to make sure your team is able to grow and develop to the point where your business needs them to be. Finding someone who’s the perfect fit for your team is difficult right off the bat – it’s something that needs to be worked on.
Resilience in the workplace is important. If a person has a high tolerance for stress and works well under pressure, it allows for you to set more ambitious goals. Resilience to stress is something that needs to be trained, though, and that’s only something you can do with competent leadership skills. If you know your team well enough, you can present them with the challenges and adversity needed to give them the right push. It’s important that you don’t push them too hard, and you can see how stress affects the workplace in the infographic below.
